The Hockey East Association announced on Tuesday UMass Lowell River Hawk Connor Hellebuyck has been named the Hockey East Stop It Co-Goaltender of the Month for November, along with Providence College Friar Jon Gillies.
During the month of November, Hellebuyck posted a 4-1-0 record with a 1.41 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage. The Winnipeg Jets prospect picked up back-to-back shutout wins over Penn State University and Notre Dame and went on to complete the two-game sweep of the Fighting Irish. The River Hawks goaltender stopped 164-of-171 shots during his five games in November.
Hellebuyck sits at 6-3-0 on the season with a 1.57 goals-against average and a .951 saver percentage. The 20-year-old has picked up wins in six of his last seven games and turned around a rough start to the 2013-14 season.
The Commerce, Mich. native has earned Hockey East weekly awards twice this season and picked up three monthly awards during his freshman season.
Along with Hellebuyck, Jon Gillies earned the monthly award for Goaltender of the Month. Gillies went 7-1-1 in November with a 1.85 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. The Calgary Flames prospect, who made 294 saves in the month, recorded a pair of shutouts at Merrimack and at Vermont to become PC’s all-time leader in career shutouts with eight. He also turned in a 45- save performance at No. 5 Quinnipiac on Nov. 27.
Hellebuyck and Gillies were two of the top goaltenders in Hockey East during the 2012-13 season and are continuing to make waves this season for their respective teams.
