UMass Lowell is coming off a weekend sweep of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish with wins on Friday and Saturday night at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass. The River Hawks allowed the Fighting Irish to only score a single goal on 75 shots over the two games with the help of sophomore goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

For his outstanding performance over the weekend, the Hockey East Association has named Hellebuyck as the Co-Player of the Week along with Devin Shore of the Maine Black Bears.

Hellebuyck went 2-0-0, stopping 74-of-75 shots (.978 save percentage) in the two-game sweep, including a 1-0 shutout victory on Friday night. The sophomore goaltender improved his season record to 6-3-0 (two shutouts) with a 1.43 goals against average and a .951 save percentage.

The Winnipeg Jets prospect now has more shutouts (8) than he has losses (6) in his Hockey East career at UMass Lowell.

UMass Lowell was also honored by Hockey East for their two-game sweep of the Fighting Irish. The River Hawks scored four power play goals on the nation’s top penalty kill and allowed only a single goal in the two wins over the weekend.

UMass Lowell has now won nine of their last 10 games and have improved to 10-4-0 on the season overall and 4-1-0 in Hockey East.
